Pierce County Farmland
Since being elected in 2005, Tim has been at the forefront of preserving farmland and farming as a viable sector of the Pierce County Economy. Shortly after Tim was elected, he partnered with Republican Shawn Bunney to fund the Farmers Market Senior Nutrition Program which gives vouchers to seniors that allows them to purchase fresh produce at local farmers markets. This successful program continues to this day. In 2006, he worked with County Councilmember Calvin Goings to pass the “Farmbudsman” Program which helps farmers in Pierce County get their produce to market. Last year, in a partnership with local farmers and the Land Conservancy, Pierce County passed the groundbreaking “TDR / PDR” program. This legislation allows farmers to sell off their land development rights and to keep the land in farming in perpetuity. In May, the Cascade Land Conservancy awarded Pierce County the Cascade Agenda Leadership Award for its efforts to save farmland with this program.
Transit
As a new member of the Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners, Tim is concerned about improving transit availability for residents in our district. His goal is to improve connections, address safety issues at the 10th/Commerce transit hub and increase availability on high travel corridors.
Snake Lake
In 2005, a partnership between Metro Parks, Cascade Land Conservancy and Pierce County resulted in the purchase of 11 acres of land adjacent to the Nature Center at Snake Lake.
